Autogenics

 Restoring Balance

Autogenic training is a relaxation technique developed by German psychiatrist Johannes Heinrich Schultz in the 1920s.  It has important health benefits, achieved mainly by restoring the balance between your sympathetic (body under stress) and parasympathetic (body at rest) branches of the autonomic nervous system.

  • Autogenic training helps with many stress induced disorders.
  • Able to relieve tension and relax away muscle pain.
  • Visualization and body awareness techniques that put you in control.
  • Can have beneficial effects on heart rate, blood pressure, and digestion.
  • Helps strengthen the immune system.

Autogenics works through a regular practice of meditative body awareness in which a variety of phrases, such as "loose and limp," "warm and heavy," and "I am at peace" are repeated in a structured way along with correct posture and reinforcing visualizations.

Autogenic training is an excellent resource for relaxing pain or tension in your muscles and in general releasing tension from your body.  Autogenics affects the subconscious mind and provides practitioners with significant self-regulating skills for their own physical and mental well-being.

Regular practice lasting 6 to 8 weeks is recommended to achieve self-regulating effects.

Autogenic Therapy is covered by insurance.

Medical Benefits of Autogenic Training

While little known in North America, Autogenics has been widely used in Europe for decades, where it is often taught in public classes.  Autogenic training has been used to treat a wide range of problems, including: chronic back pain, headaches, insomnia, anxiety and phobias, high blood pressure, eating disorders and digestive issues, and many stress-induced illnesses.
